As always, Copenhagen Fashion week 2023 offered several beautiful shows with fantastic creations and beautiful models. But something was a little different this year, several shows had chosen a slightly different approach to how their clothes should be presented and by whom. CPHFW will appear to some in 2023 as far more inclusive and open-minded towards different body types, gender, sexuality and race.
An example that should and must be highlighted is clearly the Danish curtain brand ARNE AKSEL, who turned the otherwise strict perception of a fashion show on its head, and came up with a party for both models and audience.
The showcase featured an impressive assortment of 7 styles, presented in a palette of 50 vibrant colors, and was worn by 50 handpicked personalities.
The name of the collection was THE JOY OF UNNECESSARY. The core concept behind the unveiling of the new collection was to curate a show around 50 creative and unique personalities. The show had to be about the people, and infused with each individual’s personal touch. To achieve this, the collection comprised the 50 different colors, with each one transformed into a unique tailored outfit sewn by a skilled costume designer, Mari Helen Halebro, from Det Ny Teater.
The show venue was the significant location; Vognmagergade, near ARNE AKSEL showroom where the afterparty was held. Since the outfits have been tailored for each individual, ARNE AKSEL offered everyone the opportunity to get their outfit for a self-selected price and the proceeds from the outfits will be donated to the organization Spiseforstyrrelserogselvskade .
Precisely this initiative says something about the development within the fashion world, and here, the thesis that Denmark and Danish designers are pioneers can be confirmed, as both social and ethical responsibility is taken both in consideration to the selected models and what they should symbolize, but also for the clothes that are tailored and produced in connection with CPHFW.
